Things to Come…

Image

It’s a new year and that brings new opportunities and clients! With that in mind we are featuring our first client of 2013.

When I was contacted by Cipriani I was so excited to have the opportunity to photograph their iconic locations. Cipriani is a brand that is synonymous with luxury, class, and prestige. With locations spanning the most elite around the world, they provide all manner of eateries, residences, resorts, and event hosting. To view their portfolio is to see the best the world has to offer. To have the opportunity to work with this group gives me a great sense of pride.

Represented here is the main ballroom of Cipriani Wall St. Yes, it is as awesome as the image depicts! A former bank built from 1836-1841 the building is a National Historic Landmark and has been mentioned as a ”facility unequaled in America” (White, Norval & Willensky, Elliot (2000). AIA Guide to New York City). In my humble opinion this statement is not an exaggeration.

During my visit I was fortunate enough to tour the facilities and view some of the amazing amenities provided for the residence of this magnificent location. Below is the private eating area constructed within the former vault of the bank.

I hope this is a sign of things to come, if so this is going to be a spectacular year!

Maternity Session

Image

As you have been previously informed my family is expecting once again and we have been inordinately busy trying to get everything ready (thus the short hiatus from posting) . One of the tasks I most certainly wanted to accomplish was having a maternity session with my wife. We finally found 35 seconds (slight exaggeration ;) ) to make this happen and set out on our quest. Conservatory Gardens has long been my ideal setting for this shoot and I was very resistant to change. It’s an amazing space and as long as you aren’t wearing a wedding dress you don’t need a permit!

My wife looks amazing considering she is carrying a pair and overall has been handling this monumental task very well, I’m so proud of her.
We are very excited and nervous about the new members of our family. I can’t wait to share their first formal shoot, in utero with them and to have them post utero in front of my lens. Can’t wait to meet you guys!

Welcome to the Family

Image

A new family is exciting. New challenges, new experiences these are not always fun at the time, but you have to see the humor in certain situations and laugh about them later. Sometimes these are the best memories families have. This is one of the reasons I enjoy photography so much, capturing these images or events which remind you of these situations.

Recently, I had clients who are new parents. We had a great time with their boy running in the park and creating some wonderful memories for them to reflect on in future years. I wish them the best in raising their son and would like them to keep the above in mind. It is not always easy to appreciate the events which will provide the most memorable moments, but with kids that’s part of the ride. Go with it and don’t take things too seriously, this is advice sometimes I need to heed as well!

Announcement²

Image

I hope all of you viewing this understand the image. However, for those of you that may be as stifled, as I was when hearing the news, we are expecting TWINS! I find it scary, strange, and exciting to even type that, WOW! My family and I have been waiting sometime to be able to announce this properly and I hope this image does it justice. We are diligently preparing for our very special arrivals and realize the amount of work and effort that will go into raising them as well as there big sister. But we are up to the challenge, and know we have an unbelievable support group on both sides of our immediate and extended families. Good thing to, because I am pretty sure we will need all of there assistance on this one. I try to keep in mind something I read recently which makes me feel better about the impending mayhem (forgive me for not remembering where I read this to give the appropriate credit):

Thank You For:

- A mortgage (because it means we have a roof over our heads)

- A messy home (because it means our life is full of activity)

- Dirty Dishes (because it means we ate today)

- Crying Babies (because it means we have a family)

These statements put things in perspective for me and the future doesn’t seem insurmountable, but exciting! Can’t wait to see where this ride takes us!

New Eyes

One of the challenges of photography is to find something new in the daily things, interactions etc. Personally, I try to do this as much as possible. I often look at my home from as many different perspectives as possible. The same goes for an assignment. Recently I was on an assignment for a client whom I have done work previously. While their space remains the same it is often decorated differently. Be it for a special occasion or simply because there has been furniture or accents added to the décor. It’s fun to notice new things which the owners may take for granted after they see it on a daily basis. I captured the image below in the myths of a raucous party. The flowers were stunning and the server passing in the background adds to the sense of activity which was in full swing.
