While this is my favorite time of year it is also the most hectic. I guess that’s a good thing, much better than the alternative! Although time is at a premium, recently my family and I made time to begin what we hope will become an annual ritual.
However, I need to give you a little history on this happening and how it almost didn’t. During our honeymoon years, my wife and I thought it would be nice to have a “real” tree. We purchased our unassuming symbol of the Holidays and it served it’s purpose. The real story begins with the elimination of said tree. Which, of course, was handled by yours truly! I was a tree virgin so least to say I was making it up as I went along. By the time the tree made it to the curb I had not one but two needles in my eye. It took three days for them to be expelled, it’s a miracle I am able to use the same eye for photography now.
Fast forward to present day. After moving to a situation which did not allow us to store our nine year old artificial tree we decided it might be nice to have a real tree this year. Further we thought it would be nice if our daughter were to choose the tree and to cut it down ourselves, a la “The Griswold’s”. Granted our tree is not twenty feet tall and we did not have to pull it up from the roots, but you get the idea. After choosing the most expensive tree farm on earth to satisfy our wants we went through with it. So my daughter no longer has a college fund, it will make her life more full to have this experience ;).
